Pro Helvetia is allocated a global budget by the federal government every four years. Parliament has approved a sum of 135 million francs for the 2008-2011 funding period. 137 million francs had originally been approved for the previous, 2004-2007 funding period; owing to the government's relief programme and a one-off funding cut, however, only 132.8 million francs were actually remitted to Pro Helvetia.

Operational budget
The Arts Council awards an annual total of between 23 and 24 million francs in grants and programme support. Of that sum, approximately 39% is spent at home and approximately 61% is allocated to activities abroad.
Grant applications

- minimum grant: approx. 500 francs (e.g. contribution towards travelling expenses)
- maximum grant: approx. 300,000 francs (e.g. large-scale project comprising several disciplines)
