Financing culture

Does a mix of private and public cultural funding provide greater security for artists? Or should cultural practitioners remain as independent of public institutions as possible? Can private funding guarantee enough stability and long-term perspectives? And what is demanded in return?

Club 44 in La-Chaux-de-Fonds launched a debate on the relations between public and private cultural promotion. It is part of the «Ménage – Culture and Politics in conversation» programme run by Pro Helvetia.

Two prominent opponents crossed swords at Club 44 on 11 February 2010 (20:00):

Yvette Jaggi, Dr. sc. pol., former President of Pro Helvetia and Mayor of Lausanne

Marc Bloch, Director of La Semeuse.

The discussion will be moderated by Ludovic Rocchi, journalist at «Le Matin».
